Careers Department |
|
| |
Examination Results are only a means to an end. The Careers Department, in conjunction with Subject and House Tutors, plays a key role in guiding subject, Higher education and Career choices right from the age of fifteen. |

We are unusual in that we hold our own annual Careers convention. Further help is received from our link with the Independent Schools Careers Organisation. As you can see, nearly every Moretonian goes on to higher education and the university of her choice, either immediately or after a worthwhile Gap year experience. Below is a list of destinations for the Year 2007 leavers. |

The 23rd Annual
Careers Convention
February 8th 2008 |

The Careers Convention which took place on the Friday before half-term was, as usual, very successful. We are very fortunate that our own Careers Adviser, Mrs Rona McKechnie, was able to persuade representatives from many important universities, colleges and professions to turn up. Over 60 arrived for the individual interviews or the seminar sessions for which our Upper Fifth and Sixth formers signed up.
What was very encouraging for current students was the presence of thirteen Old Moretonians who have made a success in their own particular fields of work, with business and the Media proving popular areas! Some recent students also came along to share their experiences of life at university and in their Gap year. We were equally fortunate to be able to call on the expertise of students’ parents. It was therefore a busy day for all concerned with an excellent lunch helping to keep everyone going.
The success of the day is summed up by some comments from university delegates:
‘I have been amazed by the maturity , forward thinking and expertise of the girls.’
‘Superb Convention. This by far the best Careers Fair I go to!’
‘A delightful group of young people. I feel privileged to be part of this event.’ |
