Your first steps at First Steps
When your child starts at First Steps we
encourage you to stay, if you wish, and absorb the relaxed, family atmosphere your child will encounter within First Steps. You can then be assured that groups are kept small and intimate, with a high ratio of staff to children maintained at all times to enable each child to receive outstanding care and attention.

Groups and Activities
During the day we offer a wide range of
structured and non-structured activities to suit the needs of each individual child. An informal programme is carefully developed to guarantee that each day contains variety and stimulation.

Activities include personal and social
development, language and literacy, maths, understanding of the world, physical development, creative development, dance, music and sport.

Two rooms operate, and within each room
children are further grouped according to age and development. Staff are assigned to each of the smaller groups, ensuring consistency of carers.

12 – 18 months
With high staff to child ratios, much time is spent with children in this age group encouraging the development of co-ordination, speech and social skills through exploration and play. Where possible we try to work with a child’s existing routines.

Approximately 18 months to 3
This area continues to support the rapidly
developing skills and physical abilities of the children with a sand and water play area, craft corner, story area and a wide selection of toys and equipment. Activities also include singing, musical movement and imaginative play.

This age group will benefit from regular visits up to Moreton First and time in our Foundation Stage class, helping to prepare them for school life either at Moreton Hall
or elsewhere. At this stage children also receive a gentle introduction to a wide range of subjects such as reading, writing, maths, science, IT and the world around them.
We focus on each child’s individual needs
in order to develop their confidence and independence in preparation for school. The children continue to enjoy a number
of activities including art, music, gym,
dance and drama as well as construction and creative sessions.

Rest
For those children who need them, facilities exist for children to rest during the day.

Outdoor Play
First Steps has its own, safely fenced play area outside the nursery, equipped with age appropriate play equipment. The staff will also use the rest of the Moreton Hall grounds for walks and games as appropriate.

Meals
We provide nutritious morning and afternoon snacks, a cooked lunch and supper. Menus are on display in the nursery. Special diets can be catered for.

Opening Hours
Monday to Friday. From 8am to 6pm all year except bank holidays and between December 25th to January 1st inclusive.

Fees
Fees include healthy snacks, lunch (morning session and full day session), light supper (afternoon and full day session), wipes and milk.

Fees are paid monthly in advance (see Terms and Conditions).
